Thornbury Saturday Market – Review

Thornbury Saturday Market – twice a month

Wow, what a buzz there was around Thornbury Saturday market! The town was so busy and vibrant and there was ample parking though it was beginning to fill up by 11.00 am. There were people everywhere and the market itself was extremely well attended. On arriving into the town, I was impressed with the amount of signage there was advertising the market itself and it was very clear where to find it. Considering the weather was overcast and was beginning to get chilly, as it was the last week before the clocks went back in October, the number of people who were supporting the market was outstanding. Clearly, the advertising and marketing were good as was clear by the turnout.

Thornbury is a town in the Severn Valley, in South Gloucestershire and only about 14 miles from Bristol and 25 miles from Gloucester. It has a population of around 12,500.

The stalls on offer were many and interesting. Not sure how many stalls there were but it must have been around 50 or so. There were food and drink stalls, craft stalls and hot food stalls. All the stalls were beautifully displayed and stallholders had some interesting brand stories to tell.

I began speaking with Pauline from SoapFolk who was a delight with some extremely useful tips on getting folk to browse your stall.

I spoke with my old friend Lisa Stephens from Whey More Cheese stall. She has some great advice for finding stalls and getting onto markets!

I have to say, speaking with Daniel from The Queen Bee Honey Company was a delight. His absolute passion for his product shone through like nothing I have seen before and it got me 100% wanting to buy his honey. I thought that with passion like this, he should have a Youtube Channel educating us all on the importance and value of bees! Brilliant work Daniel!

Added BenefitsExtremely well supported by locals and great parking facilities

This is a great market for traders. Even when I traded at this market more than 10 years ago, this was a good venue for a Saturday market. Probably due to the fact that it is so well supported by locals. I think that Green Top Events should be commended on providing such good signage to the market itself. The road on the High Street is closed off for the market on market day, but there was evidence that some folk still wanted to drive down the middle of the market!

Altogether a thoroughly good and honest market. There was enough footfall for good trading and enough of a variety of market stalls to keep customers engaged and spending money.

Happy Trading!
